In this painting, I wanted to show a sturdy vessel that can withstand stormy weather. Noah’s Ark is wherein people can take shelter when it’s dark and treacherous outside.
I plastered blue tissue paper on a canvas board. The texture so created became a guide for creating the lightnings and waves. I thought the bolts of lightning look like tree branches or the roots of plants. They also look like the nerves and blood vessels found in living creatures – God’s signature.
The destination for Noah’s Ark is not a place but a point in time. In fact, its intended purpose was not to travel from point A to point B but to stay afloat and keep the occupants inside alive until the flood which was God’s judgment, subsided and it was safe to come out. Noah who built the ark did not have a clue when that was going to be. Everything was done by God alone who gave Noah the instructions on how to build it, what to bring in and when to close the door.
As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. Luke 17:24, 26-27
