The Kingdom Side

My art class assignment was to buy a painting from a thrift store and modify it.  I picked one that was on a good-sized high-quality canvas.  I liked its subdued colors but the composition needed some work.

I introduced the three sheep to replace the trees that were bunched together at the center.  I also introduced a rainbow to break the monotony of the horizontal lines in the background and also changed the top line into a jagged line of mountains.

With this painting, I wanted to express the difference between two different sections. One is safe and the other is dangerous.

In the foreground, the sheep are grazing in a peaceful meadow. In the background, the faraway mountains are alluring but seem uninhabitable.  The two areas are divided by thick woods, a hedge against possible predators.  And there is the rainbow, a symbol of Peace and Grace.

If a man has 100 sheep and 1 of them gets lost, won’t he leave the 99 and go to search for the one that is lost?  And when he finds it, he will joyfully carry it home on his shoulders.  Luke 15:4-5

Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:10
